Initial Care - Leave the first piece of second skin on for a minimum of 24 hours or as advised by your tattoo artist. This allows the tattoo to breathe and initiates the healing process. Cleaning - Before touching your tattoo, wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap. - Gently remove the bandage and discard it. - Cleanse your tattoo using mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Gently lather the soap on your tattoo and rinse it off with water. - Pat the tattoo dry with a clean, disposable paper towel. Avoid rubbing or using cloth towels, as they may harbor bacteria. Second Skin Process - Apply a thin layer of Skin Care By Shawn Smith Tattoo Balm to your clean, dry tattoo. Gently massage the balm into the skin until it is fully absorbed. - Cut a piece of breathable, sterile Second Skin tattoo film slightly larger than your tattoo. - Remove the plastic backing from the Second Skin film and carefully apply it to your tattoo. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles - Leave the Second Skin film on for the recommended duration, usually up to 1 week or as advised by your tattoo artist. - After the recommended time, gently remove the Second Skin film by peeling it off slowly, following the direction of hair growth. - If the Second Skin film sticks to your tattoo, gently moisten it with warm water to aid in removal.
Design At the beginning of your first appointment, we will finalize and discuss your tattoo design. Shawn will design the first draft based on your ideas– we can brainstorm together and see if anything needs to be improved or added. This process takes around one to two hours on average – we do not charge fees for this. If it is a larger or more complex project, however, we will offer to spend a whole session working on the design. In this situation, we will take payment for the hours spent working on this at our usual rate. Payments and Deposits Payments are due immediately at the end of each session. A deposit is necessary to secure your appointment – this is $300. Deposits are non-refundable. The deposit serves to reserve all your booking dates and will be applied to the final tattoo session if the project requires multiple sessions. If it is a single session, it will be applied to that instead. If you need to change the date of your appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, you must let us know at least 1 week prior to the session so we can rearrange our schedules. A new deposit will be required to continue working together if you cancel or reschedule with less than a 1 week notice. You can reschedule your appointment only once without losing your deposit. Once we agreed on all the details regarding your tattoo project we will send you the instructions on how to pay your deposit.
Ongoing Care - Wash your tattoo gently with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water, twice a day. - Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel, ensuring it is completely dry before proceeding to the next step. - Apply a thin layer of Skin Care By Shawn Smith Tattoo Balm to your tattoo after each wash or as needed. Massage it in until fully absorbed. - Repeat this cleansing and moisturizing routine for the first two weeks or until your tattoo is fully healed. Important Tips** - Avoid exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, or any activities that may cause excessive sweating or prolonged moisture. - Do not scratch, pick, or peel the scabs or dry skin that forms during the healing process. This may lead to scarring or loss of color. - Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent friction and irritation on your tattooed area. - Avoid applying excessive amounts of balm, as it may suffocate your tattoo and impede the healing process. - If you notice any signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or prolonged pain, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Remember, every tattoo is unique, and healing times may vary. If you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, do not hesitate to contact your tattoo artist or a medical professional. Enjoy your new tattoo and embrace the art on your skin! Appointment The tattoo session usually starts at 12pm Make sure to be well-rested before coming into the appointment and eat a meal beforehand to prevent low blood sugar issues. Bring lunch snacks and water. Tattoos are much less painful and your artist can work more proficiently when the body is nourished and fed. We have a refrigerator and a microwave free to use at any time. Please do not drink alcohol before your session – this may cause excessive bleeding during the session and cause an issue with the healing process. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing that helps with the tattooing process -if you’re getting a tattoo on your arm, a tank top or sleeveless t-shirt will be helpful – if you’re getting a tattoo on your leg - it’s better to wear shorts. If you are late, you must inform us via email. If you are more than 30 minutes late without any notification, the session will be canceled without any refund. If you do not respond to this message you will lose your deposit and we will not be able to work together.
