It is very important that you take proper care of your new tattoo while it heals. Your tattoo artist is not responsible for any issues resulting from poor aftercare. Your tattoo will not heal properly if you do not follow these guidelines.
Keep it Covered
Do not touch or let anyone else touch the freshly tattooed area. Keep your new tattoo covered to protect it from bacteria. Leave the bandage on for a minimum of one hour. If Saniderm is used, keep on for 2-3 days.
We recommend that you remove the Saniderm in the shower, allowing water to wash over the tattoo and Saniderm as you remove it.
Washing your Tattoo
Use lukewarm water and anti-bacterial soap such as Dial to gently wash the area. Do not use a towel, just your hand. If your tattoo feels slimy, do not be alarmed – this is plasma and is a normal part of the healing process. Try to gently remove as much of this as possible as it can cause scabbing when it dries.
Do not rub. Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use cloth towels as they can harbor bacteria.
Follow with a light application of Aquaphor or Cetaphil lotion. Use these products for a minimum of two weeks. *Do NOT use Neosporin or alcohol!*
Bathing and Swimming
You can shower with a new tattoo. It is okay to get the tattoo wet, but do not soak your new tattoo. Submerging the tattoo in water can cause damage or infection. Avoid baths, hot tubs, pools, and the beach for at least 2-3 weeks.
Scabbing and Peeling
After a few days, you may notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing – do not be alarmed, this is normal. *Do not apply ointment or lotion to scabs.* You may also start to itch when it begins to heal. *DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH YOUR TATTOO!* If the skin itches, slap it. If it is peeling, put lotion on it. If it is scabbing, leave it alone.
Always protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays. Tanning can damage your skin and cause your tattoo to fade. Use a minimum of 30-SPF sunblock when spending time outdoors.
At the beginning of your first appointment, we will finalize and discuss your tattoo design. Shawn will design the first draft based on your ideas– we can brainstorm together and see if anything needs to be improved or added. This process takes around one to two hours on average – we do not charge fees for this.
If it is a larger or more complex project, however, we will offer to spend a whole session working on the design. In this situation, we will take payment for the hours spent working on this at our usual rate.
Payments and Deposits
Payments are due immediately at the end of each session.
A deposit is necessary to secure your appointment – this is $300. Deposits are non-refundable. The deposit serves to reserve all your booking dates and will be applied to the final tattoo session if the project requires multiple sessions. If it is a single session, it will be applied to that instead.
If you need to change the date of your appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, you must let us know at least 1 week prior to the session so we can rearrange our schedules. A new deposit will be required to continue working together if you cancel or reschedule with less than a 1 week notice. You can reschedule your appointment only once without losing your deposit.
Once we agreed on all the details regarding your tattoo project we will send you the instructions on how to pay your deposit.
The tattoo session usually starts at 12pm
Make sure to be well-rested before coming into the appointment and eat a meal beforehand to prevent low blood sugar issues. Bring lunch snacks and water. Tattoos are much less painful and your artist can work more proficiently when the body is nourished and fed. We have a refrigerator and a microwave free to use at any time.
Please do not drink alcohol before your session – this may cause excessive bleeding during the session and cause an issue with the healing process.
Make sure to wear comfortable clothing that helps with the tattooing process -if you’re getting a tattoo on your arm, a tank top or sleeveless t-shirt will be helpful – if you’re getting a tattoo on your leg - it’s better to wear shorts.
If you are late, you must inform us via email. If you are more than 30 minutes late without any notification, the session will be canceled without any refund.
If you do not respond to this message you will lose your deposit and we will not be able to work together.
As for any health problems, allergies, and contraindications - please warn us about this in advance.
